8 ft. diameter LGB curve.
10 foot diameter Aristocraft curves. Newly placed track as of 12/29/01. There was another update in the summer of 2002.All the 8 ft. mainline went and some 20 ft. curves were installed. The LGB Mikado does do better on the wider curves also especially on this curve shown below [10 ft.]. This curve in particular starts the "uphill run" of about 1.5 to 2% grade.
The first photo and the photo on the immediate left show the very long Aristocraft Doodle on the LGB 8 ft. diameter curve. These are actually not exactly foot in dameter. They are actually a little smaller than that as all track is really done in mm, including Aristocraft. I had decided this summer to widen the mainline curves. I started on two of the curves over Christmas break. Note the difference on the two photos below. There is still overhang - still noticeable but not near as severe. Look at the coupler in both 3/4 view photos.
Go as wide as you can go. The new Stuff coming down the pike is going to mandate the widest possible curves you can afford or place. The next run of Aristocraft engines are mandating 8 to 10 foot diameter curves. The new USA Trains CORRUGATED ALUMINUM PASSENGER CARS will be about 33 inches long so they will not look very good on 8 ft. curves.
