Some of the best years of my life [but the "best" is always today] were spent attending and working for Arizona State University. I worked for the Residence Life program [dormitories] and ran the 2nd largest facility for student housing - Sahuaro Hall or as we used to call it: Ft. Sahuaro - the Bronx.
Why all this detail? Because the LiZarD guest, Paul Gieske lived at Sahuaro Hall when I worked there.... |
As smooth as this engine ran, I would say that it has a 7 pole motor. I do not know for sure. |
Running over the bridge. I noted the standard Bachmann locomotive engineer in the cab. I swear, there must be 200,000 of these guys living all over the world. I have 5 myself! |
Paul also brought over the new Bachmann Coaches. These are advertised as 1:20.3 plus they have the metal handrails and electrical pick ups for the interior lights. The pickups were pretty generic and Paul bent them back due to excessive dtag. |
81498 Product Name : Large Scale 2-6-0 Mogul Steam Locomotive - Denver & Rio Grande MSRP : $799.95
The Burlington Northern Bax car in the background sort of ruins the effect...but then again, we can pretend it is an excursion train.

A week after the "formal" Arizona Connection run [formal means we wear our best underwear], I had an old acquaintance show up at the LiZarD, Paul Gieske and his wonderful family. |

Paul missed last weeks Arizona Connection run and I was hanging out all weekend so he came over with this wife and his two daughters. He also brought over one of his 1:20.3 engines and the new Bachmann cars. |
The Bachmann 2-6-0 Mogul, 1:20.3 scale. Very beautiful engine. |
Paul's daughters definitely found the thing they like the best in my house and it was the charmer - Zoomer [otherwise know as the $700.00 cat]. I looked at Paul's 2-6-0 and his 5 cars and I thought to myself....hmmmm....cat or the 2-6-0 with cars. Cat or the 2-6-0 with cars. I offered the cat to Paul for what I had into it...I can't believe he wouldn't take the deal!
It was a very nice visit and I hope they get a chance to come back. His visit convinced me to rip out the last 8 foot curve...If I had all 10 ft, he would have brought his Accucraft K-27! Out with the 8! |
