Arizona Connection - Informal Run - February 16, 2002
Duncan has been waiting for this moment forever.  With a garage stacked high with Aristocraft track [I believe almost 2000 feet!], you can tell that the man is going BIG TIME!

And on the right is the fruits of his labor - his Aristocraft SD-45 pulling a short haul freight.  Brandy, Rodney and Duncan all have the SD-45's so I am starting to feel the "itch".

The smoke unit ran a long time, much longer than I remember from the informal run at Brandy's this summer.
Duncan putting on the semi-finishing touches.  This long loop is only temporary.  The paint brush winds up being an essential tool.  A wallpaper brush was also used.  The wallpaper brush seems to be a very good tool to have when doing this.

As stated by Paul, there was too much sun on the track so it was decided to bring out the sunplow.  That darn Arizona weather and it's 300 plus days of sunshine....
An abbreviated  "Arizona Connection" met at Duncan's House. Duncan and Paul Gieske have Large Scale Trains Running in their front yards over the Holidays.  Two things made this day special - Duncan getting to finally run trains on a big layout and running into an old college acquaintance - Paul Gieske. Truly a small world.
The LGB Mikado got some broken field running.  Another thing I learned was that the SD-45 and LGB Mike run faster than I thought!  The nice, wide 20ft. diameter curves are a plus. I am sure that the new track helped also.  Great day in the sun....
This is Paul's RGS Goose, #2 from Accucraft.  This little beauty is all battery powered and uses the RCS system.  I finally got to see an RCS in action.

I have long thought about getting a goose and watching this made it all the more tempting.

Paul used to live in the Arizona State dorm that I ran.  There were some good stories exchanged.  A.S.U. is quite the college to attend.  I kept seeing Paul's name on various posts and wondered if it was the same Paul. It was!

I also got a chance to check out the range of Duncan's Aristocraft TE.  It worked very well from all areas.  Duncan's back yard is big and the TE worked fine from the farthest reaches of his current rail line.
